The Boeing 737 is the most ordered and most produced jet airliner in history with over 6,000 manufactured and a further 2,000 on order in May 2009. On average there are 1,250 737s in the air at any given time.
The 737-500 was launched in 1987 with a fuselage similar to the 737-200 but all the improvements of the ‘737 Classic’ series.
It was intended to replace -200s already service.
The first 737-500 flew on 30 June 1989 and, when production ended in 1999, 389 had been produced.
Polskie Linie Lotnicze (Polish Airlines), commonly called LOT (Polish for ‘flight’) was established in 1929 and is one of the world’s oldest airlines. At the end of the communist era in 1989 the airline began operating Western aeroplanes, including 737-400s and 737-500s.
This model represents SP-LKA which entered service with LOT in December 1991.
