The Dewoitine 53 was a modification of the earlier Dewoitine 27 French light weight fighter. It attracted the interest of several potential customers but was eventually not put into production and only nine were made.
The Dewoitine 53 was a modification of the earlier Dewoitine 27 which has been designed to meet the French Armee de l’Air requirement for a light weight fighter.
Due to Emile Dewoitine’s financial problems development of the 27 was undertaken separately in France and Switzerland but only put into production in Switzerland.
The structural failure of the wing of a pre-production Dewoitine 27 led to the order of a modified version with a strengthen wing that became the Dewoitine 53.
It was offered in several versions with different engines but eventually only nine were manufactured.
This model represents an early Dewoitine 53 in French service in the early 1930s.
