The Dornier 328 was a turboprop powered commuter airliner developed in the mid 1980s.
Despite its good performance it entered a crowded market and only 112 were produced.
Development of the Dornier 328 began in response to market research suggesting a large market for 30 seat airliners and design work began in December 1988.
It had the wing of the Dornier 228 utility aircraft with a new fuselage incorporating composite materials in a number of areas.
The first one flew on 6 December 1991 and they began entering service in October 1993.
Production continued until the final aeroplane was delivered in October 1999.
A turbojet version, the Fairchild-Dornier 328JET was also developed
