The Fokker F-28 was a jet airliner designed to serve regional and low capacity routes. Ansett Transport Industries flew more then 15 of them on various routes in regional Western Australia and New South Wales.
The Fokker F-28 was a joint venture with Dutch, German and British partners with components manufactured in various places assembled by Fokker in Holland.
It was designed to appeal to airlines wanting jet airliners for low demand routes and a minimum of sophisticated servicing and maintenance.
The prototype F-28 first flew on 9 May 1967 and they began entering service in March 1969.
Between 1967 and 1987 241 were manufactured and the design was then developed into the more advanced Fokker 100.
