The GippsAero GA8 Airvan was designed and manufactured in Morwell, Victoria. It was designed to fill many utility roles and has been sold to many owners in Australia and overseas with around 250 being manufactured.
The Gippsland Aeronautics GA8 was the designed to be rugged and simple for use in remote areas from austere air strips.
It fills a market niche between the Cessna 206 and Cessna Caravan.
Design begin in 1993 and the ‘proof of concept’ GA8 made its first flight on 3 March 1995.
The prototype made its first flight in August 1996 and the GA8 was granted its certificate of airworthiness in 2000.
Since then around 250 have been manufactured, some in a more advanced from with a turboprop engine.
The GA8 performs many tasks including passenger services, freight, sightseeing, parachuting, observation and search and rescue operations conducted by a diverse range of operators around the world.
This model represents VH-LVA in private ownership in 2011.
