The Learjet was one of the first privately manufactured business jets.
It was designed in Switzerland and based on an abortive 1950s ground attack fighter aircraft.
The Learjet company moved to the United States in 1962 to begin production, the first Learjet, a model 23, made its first on 7 October 1963 and deliveries began in October 1964.
The Learjet 35 began as the earlier model fitted with turbofan engines which increased power and reduced noise, a modified testbed aircraft first flew in May 1971 and the first Learjet 35 on 22 August 1973.
Between 1973 and 1994 738 Learjet 35s were produced.
They were replaced in production by Learjet 55s and the 3000th Learjet was produced in June 2017
