This Nakaima Ki-43-II flew with the 77th Sentai/2nd Chutai.
The 77th Sentai was wiped out at Hollandia. It was flown by Capt. Yoshidide Matsuo in New Guinea 1944.
Capt. Matsuo was killed in ground combat in Western New Guinea in June 1944.
Along with the 248th Sentai both Imperial Japanese Army Air Force units were wiped out as no aircraft nor hardly any pilots survived New Guinea’s Green Hell.
What was left of both units, mainly a few ground crew members, were disbanded shortly after being evacuated from the Western tip of New Guinea.
